As of the beginning of 2018, Bay Area Black Worker Center has recently expanded to San Francisco. In order to get a better understanding of the issues that affect black workers in San Francisco, we have begun hosting a series of listening sessions. From these listening sessions we aim to create a platform for a campaign which we anticipate on launching once we have a solid base and membership. As our base continues to grow, so will the knowledge of our work amongst black workers throughout the city.
Our sole focus is to organize black workers around issues such as the fight for livable wage, ending racial discrimination, ending wage theft, improving the quality of jobs and access to those jobs
as well as access to higher education and training. We see black workers as those already employed, unionized, non-union, immigrant, formerly incarcerated, youth and unemployed. We engage with black workers through door knocking, tabling at events, street outreach, as well as targeting worksites with high concentrations of black workers. We regularly host listening sessions in the community to learn about the issues that are affecting our membership. We have monthly membership meetings and leaders meetings from which our campaigns our derived.
